Chandigarh Vegetable Price Hike Latest News Today: The prices of vegetables are increasing very fast. Today, the prices of Tomato in Chandigarh have soared to Rs 70 per kg at the city's apni mandi. There was a significant increase in the prices from Rs 30 per kg on June 21 and Rs 60 per kg on July 3. Consumers are feeling the pinch as tomato rates soar to Rs 80 per kg at some places.
Vegetable price hike is said to be because of harsh weather condition that disrupted local tomato production in Punjab. With local supply severely impacted, the apni mandis in Chandigarh have turned to neighbouring states to meet the demand. This shift is expected to further drive up prices as transportation and logistics add to the costs.
Not only the consumer faces problem amidst rise in vegetable prices but also local vendors are struggling.
The prices of potatoes have increased from Rs 30 kg to Rs 50 per kg, while there is no change in the prices of onion as it remain constant to Rs 45 per kg. In early June, the prices of potatoes were Rs 20-25, and so were onions. The prices of another vegetables are also increased such as capsicum is being sold at Rs 100 per kg, Brinjal at Rs 80 per kg and bottle gourd at Rs 80 per kg. Coriander’s rate has also touched Rs 220 per kg while Garlic is being sold for Rs 240 per kg.
