Vigilance nabbed lawyer accepting bribe on behalf of Naib Tehsildar
Chandigarh: State Vigilance Bureau, during its ongoing campaign against corruption, today nabbed an Advocate red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 7,000 on behalf of Naib Tehsildar and his Reader. The Bureau has booked all the three accused under corruption charges.
HC puts Punjab govt on notice for law exempting hotels, pubs
Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday put Punjab government on notice, asking why its recent law, exempting hotels and bars from the liquor sale ban near highways, not be stayed until a final decision. The state’s response has been sought by July 24.
Old age pension will be credited directly into beneficiaries account
Chandigarh: Punjab Government has decided to credit the old age pensions and financial assistance under other social security schemes directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries. This decision has specifically been taken to facilitate the beneficiaries living in the rural areas of the state.

Four killed in Punjab bus-car collision
Muktsar: Four persons, including a woman, were killed and six seriously injured when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a state owned transport bus here today, police said.
2 Nigerians arrested for drug smuggling
Chandigarh: Sleuths of the Narcotic Control Bureau have arrested two Nigerians from the city and recovered 536 gm of heroin from their possession, an official said here today. The accused have been identified as Alitumo and Ikechukwu Orji, both presently residing in Delhi, NCB zonal director Kaustubh Sharma said here.
Businessman thrashed a cop for stopping his BMW
Patiala: A 29-year-old businessman was arrested after he assaulted a traffic police constable, who had stopped him when he was driving his BMW sedan on the wrong side of the road at Khanda Chowk in Patiala on Tuesday evening. The policeman too returned a few blows.
