Gurdaspur: PPCC president and party’s nominee for the Gurdaspur by-poll, Sunil Jakhar, has said that farmers in the state would get additional Rs 40,000 per acre this year due to the prevailing high prices of paddy.
Lauding
Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, for his efforts to make farming viable
for the distressed farmers of the state by ensuring high prices for their
yield, Jakhar said that the paddy variety of 1509, which was sold at Rs 900 per
quintal last year, is fetching Rs 2600 plus per quintal this year. He said
similarly, the paddy variety of 1121, which was sold off at Rs 1400 per quintal
last year, is expected to touch Rs 3500 per quintal this year.
He
said the high rates of paddy would result in an additional profit for the
Punjab farmers. The
Chief Minister assured Jakhar that he had issued instructions for immediate
release of payment to the farmers, without further delay, following the CCL
sanction by the Centre.
