Fire breaks out in office complex
A fire broke out in a four- storeyed building in a commercial complex near Bank Square in sector 17-B here today. Five fire tenders had been rushed to the spot to douse the flames, officials said, adding that the fire broke out in the upper floors of the building, which housed a government office. Man commits suicide by jumping in front of train
A postal employee committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train here, the police said today. Tarsem Lal (49), a resident of Nangal Majha village, jumped in front of the Amritsar-New Delhi Express last night near Chaheru between Phagwara-Jalandhar rail section, they said. The body has been handed over to the family after post- mortem. The reason for suicide is not yet known, the police added

Washington: An Indian-American student in the US has won this year's National Speech and Debate Tournament, considered to be the most prestigious high school competition in the country. J J Kapur, a Sikh, composed his own persuasive speech titled 'Let's Dance' addressing a social issue. His speech, which won the competition in the category of original oratory, started out with a lively Bollywood dance and focused on his experiences as a Sikh-American youth.
