Twenty two years after Punjab’s then Chief
Minister Beant Singh was assassinated, his grandson Guriqbal Singh’s
appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Punjab Police on compassionate
grounds after allegedly bending the rules today came under judicial
scanner.
Acting on a petition alleging that Guriqbal was not even eligible for
appointment, Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain of the High Court fixed December 5
as the next date of hearing in the matter.
Seeking the setting aside of his appointment, Praveen Kumar of Tarn Taran claimed that in any case his family did not require compassionate appointment as their financial and political status was “sky scrapping”
