Eggs hurled at Union Agri Minister's vehicle; 5 arrested
Bhubaneswar: The Youth Congress activists in Odisha today hurled eggs at Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh's vehicle and waved black flags near the state guest house in protest against the death of five farmers in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur district. The incident took place when the union minster left the state guest house and was on his way to attend a programme on "Sabka Sath Sabka Bikas" in Jatani.

Raipur: BJP chief Amit Shah has said Mahatma Gandhi was a "chatur baniya", a reference to the mercantile caste to which he was born, who had rightly advised dissolution of the Congress after Independence. Addressing a select audience of "prominent citizens" here yesterday evening, Shah also said the Congress was not rooted in any ideology or principles and was sort of a "special purpose vehicle" to secure freedom.
Gold slips on global cues, tepid demand
New Delhi: Gold slumped for the third day, losing Rs 55 to Rs 29,370 per 10 grams at the bullion market today, largely in tandem with a weak global trend. Besides, a reduced offtake by local jewellers owing to a considerable fall in demand at the domestic spot market hurt the sentiment.Silver also cracked below the Rs 40,000-mark by falling Rs 225 to Rs 39,900 per kg on poor offtake by industrial units and coin makers.
Seven lakh farmers in Rajasthan to get insurance cover of Rs 6 lakh
Jaipur: Nearly seven lakh farmers who have availed crop loan through cooperative banks in Rajasthan will get an insurance cover of Rs 6 lakh by giving only Rs 27 as yearly premium. Rajasthan government has raised the insurance amount by one lakh in the present fiscal year in the "Raj Sahakar personal accident insurance scheme" , targeted to cover more than 25 lakh farmers, a state minister said.
Dangal actress escapes unhurt in road accident
Srinagar: 'Dangal' actress Zaira Wasim escaped unhurt after her car met with an accident in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today. The 16-year-old actress was travelling with her friend when the accident took place on Boulevard Road on the banks of Dal Lake late Friday night, they said.
Militant killed as Army foils infiltration bid in J-K's Gurez
Srinagar: A militant was killed as the Army thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of Bandipora district in north Kashmir. An Army official said the troops guarding the LoC observed movement of ultras trying to sneak into the valley from across the border and challenged them. During the exchange of fire, a militant was killed, the official said.
Engineer killed, pilots injured in chopper crash in Badrinath
Dehradun: A helicopter carrying pilgrims crashed soon after take-off from the Himalayan shrine of Badrinath in Uttarakhand today, killing a crew member and injuring two pilots. All the five passengers were reportedly safe.

AI plane overshoots runway after brake loss,Jammu airport shut
Jammu: A major tragedy was averted after an Air India plane from Delhi with 134 passengers on board suffered a brake failure on landing here and skidded beyond the runway before coming to a halt at the end of the strip, following which the airport had to be shut.The airline said all passengers were safe and there was no damage to the aircraft.
