Brain dead man from Nashik gives new life to a Pune patient
Nashik: A 29-year-old man in Pune got a new lease of life after heart of a brain dead patient was flown from Ojhar airstrip near here to Pune, and successfully transplanted into the former's body. The vital organ was flown from the Ojhar airstrip yesterday and it reached the recipient within 43 minutes, at Pune's Rubi Hospital.
Aadhaar-linked issues to be decided by constitution bench: SC
New Delhi: The Supreme Court today said that all the issues arising out of Aadhaar should be finally decided by its constitution bench. A three-judge bench, headed by Justice J Chelameswar, asked the parties to urge the Chief Justice to set up a constitution bench to decide the issues relating to Aadhaar. "We suggest both of you (petitioners and the Centre) to request Chief Justice to constitute a larger bench so that these matters can be decided finally," the bench, also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and Navin Sinha, said.
Haryana Mango Mela kicks off tomorrow
Chandigarh: The famous annual mango festival of Haryana will begin at Yadavindra Gardens in Pinjore, near here tomorrow, with over 3,000 varieties of the "king of fruits" on display. As many as 3,000 entries of mouth-watering mangoes from northern part of India and a range of mango products will be on display at the 26th edition of the festival at Pinjore, about 25 km from here.
Allowance for troops in Siachen, Naxal areas more than doubles
New Delhi: The government has more than doubled risk and hardship allowance for armymen in Siachen and hiked the same for security forces deployed for counter insurgency operations and in Naxal-hit areas. The increased payments are among the higher allowances the government notified in the Gazette yesterday, days after the Cabinet approved with minor modifications the recommendations made by the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).

New Delhi: The Indian Railways has replaced bulky, multi-lingual question booklets with online tests for its recruitment process, resulting in a green initiative that has helped saved four lakh trees and 319 crore paper sheets. The three-phase online examination covering preliminary, written and aptitude and typing skill test is a first of its kind for the state-run transporter.
