Cyclone Montha: Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu Conducts Aerial Survey of Damages

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday afternoon, conducted an aerial survey of areas affected by severe cyclonic storm ‘Montha’, which resulted in heavy rainfall in several districts of the state, also inundating farmlands.

The Cyclonic Storm “Montha”, however, has weakened into a ‘Deep Depression’ today and now lies centered over coastal Andhra Pradesh & adjoining Telangana, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The depression, IMD said, moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 13 kmph in the last 6 hours.

As per IMD, the depression, as of 11:30 am, lay centered over north Andhra Pradesh & adjoining areas of south Odisha, south Chhattisgarh, and northeast Telangana.

The cyclone is located at about 20 km east of Bhadrachalam (Telangana), 110 km east-northeast of Khammam (Telangana), 110 km southwest of Malkangiri (Odisha), and 180 km south-southwest of Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh).

“It is likely to move north-northwestwards towards south Chhattisgarh and weaken into a depression during next 6 hours,” IMD added in its weather report.

Additionally, the weather department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, in its latest updates.
