Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, seeking the repatriation of the mortal remains of Indian nationals who lost their lives while serving in the Russian Army, and urging efforts to trace those still missing.

In his letter, Seechewal highlighted the recruitment of Indian youth into the Russian military by certain travel agencies, stating that several Indians lost their lives during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, while others remain missing.

“We have previously raised this issue in Parliament and have written to you requesting a prompt resolution to this matter,” the letter stated.

Seechewal further mentioned that an Indian national, Jagdeep Kumar, who recently returned from Russia, submitted documents confirming the deaths of several Indian soldiers in the war.

“He also provided a list of ten Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the conflict, with four still missing. This list has been attached for necessary action,” the letter added.

The Rajya Sabha MP requested that the mortal remains of the deceased soldiers be repatriated to India with full respect and honour so that their families can perform the last rites. He also urged authorities to intensify efforts to locate and safely bring back the missing soldiers.
