Ahmed Patel wins Rajya Sabha seat from Gujarat
Following a dramatic series of events that lasted till the wee hours of Wednesday, senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel was reelected to Rajya Sabha from Gujarat along with BJP president Amit Shah and Union Minister Smriti Irani. Patel polled 44 votes, the required number to cross the line after the Election Commission declared two votes cast by rebel Congress legislators invalid. Shah and Irani received 46 votes each. Congress turncoat Balwantsinh Rajput registered only 38 votes.
Another stalking incident in Mumbai shocks the country
Mumbai: A 34-year-old fashion designer has alleged she was stalked by a man on her way home with her kids in a car in suburban Jogeshwari area, police said today. The incident comes to light three days after Vikas Barala, the son of Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala, and his friend were arrested for allegedly stalking the daughter of a Haryana IAS officer in Chandigarh.

Cross-LoC trade resumes after two weeks
Srinagar, Aug 8 (PTI) The cross-LoC trade on Srinagar- Muzaffarabad road resumed today, more than two weeks after it was suspended following recovery of heroin and brown sugar from a truck coming from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Ahead of the resumption, authorities sealed the Customs Department office at Salamabad Trade Facilitation Centre at Uri on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route after the staff posted there "absconded" from duty, officials said.
