Severe Cyclonic Storm “Montha” Continues to Move North-Northwestwards; IMD Issues Rainfall Warnings

Severe Cyclonic Storm “Montha” Andhra Pradesh weather warnings Latest News: The Severe Cyclonic Storm “Montha”, currently active over the west-central Bay of Bengal, is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, during the evening or night of October 28, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system is expected to bring maximum sustained wind speeds of 90–100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph.
In the wake of the cyclone, extremely heavy rainfall — measuring over 21 cm — has been recorded at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during the past 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. today, the IMD said.
At 1:30 p.m. today, the Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha was positioned about 100 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam, 180 km south-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 270 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and 500 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).
The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema on October 28.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has rolled out measures to deal effectively with the cyclone, as the state is also expected to be affected by the cyclone, particularly, eight south-western districts of the state.
