High Court quashes FIR registered against Ram Rahim Singh
It comes as a major relief to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
Ram Rahim Singh Latest News: In a major relief to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday quashed the FIR registered against him for allegedly outraging religious sentiments during his discourse pertaining to an incident involving Sant Kabir Das and Guru Ravidas.
During the hearing, the bench of Justice Manjari Nehru Kaul observed that the court found no evidence of any distortion or misrepresentation in the incident related to the life of Sant Kabir Das.
It also observed that the narrative does not seem to insult the religious sentiments or beliefs of any specific group, as it is deeply rooted in historical resources.
It is pertinent to mention that Jalandhar rural police had registered a case against the Dera chief on the basis of a complaint filed by Jassi Tallan, the president of Shri Guru Ravidas Tiger Force, on March 7, 2023.
As per a complaint lodged at Patara police station, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had made incorrect remarks about Sr Guru Ravidas and Satguru Kabir that allegedly hurt the sentiments of the community.
Following the registration of the FIR, the Dera chief through his counsel had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking its quashing, contending that the Satsang, where the alleged statements were made, was organised on February 28, 2016. Besides, there was no complaint from any person in the past seven years.
