Hansika Lamba shines with Silver at Budapest Wrestling Tournament
Under-23 World Championship silver medallist Hansika Lamba delivered a stellar performance at the 'Poliak Imre, Varga Janos and Kozma Istvan Memorial Senior Ranking Tournament', winning the silver medal in the women's 55 kg category. Hansika made a remarkable comeback in the semifinal to book her place in the final. Trailing 2-7 against Germany's Anastasia Blayvas, she showed tremendous fighting spirit to turn the match around and secure a 10-7 victory.
However, in the gold medal bout, despite putting up a tough fight against Ukraine's strong opponent Natalia Klivchutska, Hansika lost 0-5 on points (VPO), having to settle for the silver medal. Still, this marks another achievement for Hansika at the international level, as she had previously won a bronze medal at the 2026 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship. Indian freestyle wrestlers added to the country's medal tally by winning two bronze medals on the second day of the competition.Vishal Kaliraman defeated Kazakhstan's Osumzhan Dastanbek 8-2 in the play-off for third place in the 65 kg category.
Meanwhile, Rajat Ruhal secured a bronze medal in the 125 kg heavyweight category after the USA's Mason Mark Parris withdrew from the matchThis has taken India's total medal count to five. On the first day, Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat won gold in the 57 kg weight category, and Deepak won bronze in the 61 kg category.
