Sanju Samson Wins ICC Player of the Month for March After Stellar T20 World Cup Run
India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March following his impressive performances during India’s T20 World Cup campaign and subsequent international matches. The International Cricket Council announced the award on Tuesday, recognizing his consistent and impactful batting across key fixtures.
Samson, who was initially not part of India’s playing XI in the early stages of the tournament, made a strong comeback after being included later in the squad. He played crucial innings under pressure, including a key 89 off 46 balls in the final against New Zealand.
His form continued throughout the tournament, with notable knocks of 97 not out against West Indies and another 89 in the semifinal against England. Across the competition, he established himself as a reliable middle-order batter, delivering in high-pressure situations.
In March alone, Samson scored 275 runs in three T20 internationals at an average of 137.50 and an impressive strike rate of 199.27, highlighting his explosive batting form.
Reacting to the recognition, Samson said receiving the ICC award was a special moment in his career and credited the team management and teammates for their support. He described India’s World Cup victory as one of the most memorable phases of his cricket journey.
The ICC monthly award also highlighted strong performances from players across countries in recent months, with Samson becoming the latest Indian cricketer to earn global recognition in white-ball cricket.
