Gurvinder Singh in critical condition, unable to speak after attack
A Punjabi truck driver has been the victim of a racially motivated attack in the United States. According to reports, the attacker first made racial remarks at the driver, who was resting, on Monday morning, before assaulting him with a knife.
Pavittar Singh, a member of the Punjabi community, said the driver has been identified as Gurvinder Singh and has been admitted to hospital in critical condition. Police have been informed about the entire incident.
Pavittar Singh said it is not yet known which part of Punjab the driver hails from. He remains in serious condition and is currently unable to speak. He worked for WJ Transport. He was found bleeding profusely, roughly 100 meters away from his truck, which was parked in a rest lane at the time.
Following the attack, there has been strong anger within the Punjabi community. People have said that racially motivated attacks against Punjabis are steadily increasing, yet local media continues to ignore such incidents. They allege that their voices are being suppressed so that the world does not find out about what is happening.
A video of the incident has also surfaced, which was uploaded by an Instagram user named Pavittar Singh on his account. The video shows a truck bearing number 11240 parked in a roadside rest area, with blood scattered around it — spread out over a distance of nearly 100 meters. It has also been reported that the attacker was white, though he has not been identified, and police have not announced any arrests so far.
