The incident of bomb blast on the railway track is being taken very seriously by the Punjab Police as well as central agencies.

The sensational incidents like the bomb blast on the railway track between Shambhu and Rajpura in Patiala district on Monday night and the killing of two persons in village Bhoma in Batala police district on the same night have not only raised concerns about the law and order situation in Punjab, but have also given an opportunity to the opponents of the Bhagwant Mann government to raise questions about the priorities of this government. The bomb blast incident on the railway track is being taken very seriously by the Punjab Police as well as the central agencies.

The main reason for this is that this is the second time this year that a train has been targeted by a bomb blast on the Ambala-Ludhiana section of the Mumbai-Amritsar railway freight corridor. Media reports say that the bomb blast took place near Shambhu on Monday night when a freight train was passing through the track.

The explosion caused a severe shock to the drivers, but the goods train was not damaged. The police were alerted only after they reported the matter. The discovery of a man's torso and pieces of flesh from the scene, the damage to the track, and the presence of pieces of detonator and wire have led the police to conclude that the person who planted the bomb was killed on the spot due to the intensity of the explosion.

The discovery of two motorcycles with Haryana and UP number plates and a half-burnt mobile phone near the same place raises suspicion that the man who died in the blast was not alone. Some of his companions were also with him. He has been identified as Jagroop Singh of Panjwar village in Tarn Taran district. The police claim that he was a supporter of MP Amritpal Singh, who is detained in Dibrugarh Jail (Assam). Apart from this background, the police are describing the entire incident as a ruse by Khalistan National Army, a militant organization, on the basis of threats to blow up the railway tracks.

The incident of indiscriminate firing on three persons walking by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in village Bhoma of Batala police district late on the same day is also being linked to the police's failure to prevent the sensational attack. In the above incident, two youths Kashmir Singh and Jugraj Singh were killed and a third was seriously injured. Initial reports suggest that these three had no enmity with anyone and neither had they ever received any threat. Usually, such killings are linked to the internal fights between gangster groups.

But the absence of such claims in the Bhoma incident is being taken as a sign of a deeper conspiracy. While such incidents are a major political challenge for the Aam Aadmi government of Punjab, they also raise a question mark over the effectiveness of the war waged by the Punjab Police against gangsters. It is never possible to completely eliminate incidents like killings or lawlessness in any densely populated state; this reality should not be ignored. But when sensational incidents occur regularly, they provide an opportunity for the opponents of the government to wage a verbal jihad.

That is why sharp rhetoric is being heard against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Some political constituencies are even calling such incidents a 'conspiracy' to divert people's attention from the 'internal civil war' of the Aam Aadmi Party. In such an environment of accusations, it is important to remind people that incidents that disrupt law and order should not be seen through a narrow political prism. The government's failures should certainly be pointed out, but they should not be used for political mudslinging. Such an approach is considered the true proof of political acumen and charm.
