According to the World Health Organization, more than 500 cases of Ebola have been reported in the three countries.

No case of Ebola virus has been found in India yet, yet the Indian Director General of Health Services (DGHS) has instructed airports to conduct medical screening of passengers coming from African countries infected with this virus by immigration officials and allow them to leave the airport only after this process is completed. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Ebola disease is spread in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda and South Sudan and the number of patients of this disease is continuously increasing in these three countries.

All three countries are poor; they are struggling with civil war and anarchy and are not in a position to deal effectively with any epidemic. Congo is a land rich in extremely valuable minerals, but the parties (especially China, the US and some European countries) who are ambitious to control the treasure of these minerals are not allowing this country to come out of the chaos. Companies promoted by these countries are in control of the mines of lithium, cobalt, copper, tantalum and other valuable minerals and are using every legal and illegal means to maintain their monopoly. Precious soils are valuable because the amount of very expensive minerals hidden in them is limited and that amount can only be extracted by human hands instead of machines. Such a process is the reason for the emergence of many new diseases. Ebola is also one of such diseases.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 500 cases of Ebola have been reported in the three countries. Of these, 130 patients have died in the last two weeks. This shows that the strain of the virus that is spreading is a deadly one. It has been identified as the 'Bundibugyo' strain. No vaccine or treatment has been developed to prevent it yet.

Symptoms of this disease include fever, weakness, headache, muscle pain, diarrhea, sore throat, and unexplained bleeding. These symptoms do not necessarily appear immediately after infection. They can take up to 21 days to fully develop. After the symptoms appear, the patient's condition continues to worsen. If they worsen, it can also cause death. Ebola is not a new disease. It has spread from time to time in the past. But the current strain is more deadly.

Can this disease become a pandemic? The World Health Organization's answer is 'yes'. According to this organization, although Ebola has been mainly confined to the African continent, its infection can still be contracted by people who have come to Africa from other continents or who are traveling from Africa to other continents. Since direct treatment is not yet possible, the ability of the infected patient to fight the disease depends more on the ability of the patient to overcome the danger.

The unfortunate aspect of the situation is that after the US severed ties with the WHO in January, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Britain have also reduced their respective funding quotas, forcing the organization to cut its annual budget by 8 percent. Due to this lack of funds, the organization is unable to allocate adequate amounts for the treatment of Ebola.

In such a situation, it is the duty of other countries, including India, to organize themselves and activate their own research resources instead of looking to the US or Europe for a cure for Ebola. The global treaty signed last year under the leadership of India to stop the spread of epidemics had created hope of cooperation from all parties in the search for treatments. But now the reluctance of rich countries to contribute to this work has rendered the aforementioned treaty ineffective. This approach is both worrying and dangerous.
