Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a traditional Māori powhiri welcome at Government House in Auckland this Saturday, marking a significant moment in diplomatic relations. This ceremonial greeting highlighted New Zealand’s indigenous heritage and established a warm tone for the high-level discussions that followed between the Prime Minister and his counterpart, Christopher Luxon.

Bilateral talks focused on accelerating economic cooperation, building upon the Free Trade Agreement signed earlier this year in April. Both leaders are working to ensure this visit provides fresh momentum to existing agreements and explores new avenues for collaborative growth. These discussions serve as a follow-up to the meeting held in New Delhi last March.

Beyond formal diplomacy, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with prominent business leaders and sports figures today. These interactions aim to foster deeper connections across diverse sectors, including technology, trade, and cultural exchange.

The day concludes with an address to a large gathering of the Indian diaspora. This event will celebrate the enduring people-to-people links that continue to unite both countries.
