Anand and Sharma received the award in the “Illustrated Reporting and Commentary” category.
Indian journalists Anand R K and Suprna Sharma have been awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for their work highlighting the growing threat of cyber fraud and digital surveillance.
The Pulitzer Prize, administered by Columbia University, is among the highest honours in journalism, literature and music, recognising excellence and public interest reporting worldwide.
Anand and Sharma received the award in the “Illustrated Reporting and Commentary” category, which recognises innovative use of visuals and narrative to explain complex issues. They shared the honour with Natalie Obiko Pearson for their collaborative project.
Their report, titled “Trapped”, examines a case involving an Indian neurologist who was allegedly subjected to a form of “digital arrest” by cyber fraudsters. Through a combination of visuals and detailed narration, the work sheds light on how such scams operate, the methods used to manipulate victims, and the broader risks posed by evolving digital threats.
