Atiq Ahmad's youngest son Aban dies in highway crash while travelling to meet his jailed brother in Jhansi
Jhansi: Two people, including mafia don Atiq Ahmad's younger son Aban Ahmad, died on Thursday morning in a road accident on the Jhansi-Kanpur highway. He was travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi to meet his brother Ali, who is lodged in Jhansi jail. Three other young men travelling in the car were critically injured in the accident. Police admitted all the injured to a medical college.
According to eyewitnesses, a speeding Creta car was travelling from Prayagraj towards Jhansi on the Jhansi-Kanpur highway at around 10:30 am. Near Khilli village in the Poonch police station area, an animal suddenly came onto the road. While trying to avoid it, the car went out of control and crashed into the divider. Aban Ahmad and Sonu Khan, who were seated in the front seat, suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. The injured in the car were identified as Ahjam, a resident of Badshahi Mandi (Prayagraj), Mohammad Zaid, a resident of Kotwali, and Umar Ahmad, a resident of Poora Mufti — all residents of Prayagraj. On receiving information, police reached the spot and sent the injured to the medical college. SSP BBGTS Murthy stated that as per initial reports, the deceased has been identified as Aban Ahmad, son of Atiq Ahmad. Aban is expected to be laid to rest at Kasari Masari in Prayagraj, where other members of the family are also buried.
He was the youngest of Atiq Ahmad's five sons and was slightly younger than his twin brother Ahjam. Of the five brothers, Umar and Ali are currently lodged in separate jails in Uttar Pradesh. Another son, Asad Ahmad, who was wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, was killed in a police encounter near Jhansi in April 2023. Umesh Pal was a key witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, in which Atiq Ahmad was also an accused. Atiq Ahmad's wife Shaista Praveen, who is also an accused in the high-profile murder case, is absconding, according to police.
On April 15, 2023, Atiq Ahmad, 60, and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists while they were being escorted by police to a medical college in Prayagraj for a medical check-up. The killings, carried out in full view of television cameras, drew nationwide attention.
