Taking suo motu cognisance of an investigative report published by Rozana Spokesman, the Punjab State Commission for Women under Chairperson Raj Lali Gill has ordered the Mohali Police to launch an immediate, high-level investigation. The case involves a human trafficking racket luring young girls under the pretext of offering acting roles in movies.

Exercising powers under the Punjab State Commission Act 2001, the statutory body dispatched video links and screenshots to police officials. The panel directed that a senior officer personally heads the probe and submit a formal action taken report, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding women's rights and dignity in the state.

The action follows an exposé by Rozana Spokesman TV detailing how victims were tricked into fake film shoots. One victim recounted being taken to Ferozepur by an acquaintance, Mandeep Kaur, and subsequently sold in Uttar Pradesh for 1.5 lakh rupees under the guise of filming a wedding scene.

The victim's family was forced to mortgage land and jewelry to raise 1.5 lakh rupees to secure her release. The girl alerted authorities that several other victims remain trapped by the trafficking network across state lines.

Critical of initial police inaction, the victim lodged complaints with the Women's Commission and Punjab Director General of Police. She demanded immediate FIR registration and strict measures against both the trafficking gang and negligent Phase 8 Mohali police officials.
