Punjab to Conduct Statewide Civil Defence Mock Drill on April 24 at 8 PM Across All Districts
Civil defence preparedness will be tested across Punjab on April 24, 2026, through a coordinated statewide mock exercise involving all districts. The drill is aimed at assessing how effectively emergency systems respond under simulated crisis conditions.
The exercise will begin at 8:00 pm and will include scenarios such as air raid alerts and temporary blackout arrangements. Authorities said the focus is on evaluating readiness rather than responding to any actual threat, as part of routine disaster management planning.
Government approval for the initiative has been issued by the Home Department following directions from the central government. The decision places emphasis on strengthening coordination between district-level administrative units and civil defence mechanisms.
As part of implementation, Deputy Commissioners have been assigned supervisory responsibility in their respective districts. They will monitor arrangements on the ground and ensure that post-exercise assessments are documented and submitted for review.
Public communication has also been prioritised. The Department of Public Relations has been instructed to inform citizens in advance so that awareness is created and unnecessary panic is avoided during the scheduled drill period.
Officials described the initiative as part of a broader effort to improve emergency preparedness infrastructure. The exercise is expected to help identify gaps in coordination, communication systems, and response protocols across departments.
Residents across Punjab have been requested to cooperate fully and treat the drill as a planned safety exercise conducted in the interest of preparedness and public awareness rather than any real emergency situation.
