Ludhiana: A dispute during a wedding function in Ludhiana took a violent turn early Tuesday, resulting in injuries to four individuals, including one who was shot, police said.
The altercation broke out around 3 am near Kochar Market when two groups, reportedly from the same neighbourhood, got into an argument that quickly escalated. During the initial clash, three people were attacked with sharp-edged weapons and sustained injuries.
Police officials said the situation worsened when the injured were being shifted to the civil hospital. Members of the rival group allegedly intercepted them again near the hospital, where a man fired multiple shots. One of the bullets struck a man identified as Dharminder, leaving him wounded.
All four injured persons were admitted to hospital, with one reported to be in critical condition.
Investigators have stated that the clash was not linked to any gang activity. Preliminary findings suggest that the individuals involved knew each other and were under the influence of alcohol, which contributed to the escalation of the dispute.
Officials also confirmed that three rounds were fired during the incident. The weapon used is believed to be licensed, though authorities said this will only be confirmed once it is recovered.
Police have launched a search operation to identify and apprehend those involved, while further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events.
