The upgraded setup is also expected to improve the handling of accident cases and serious medical emergencies in the area.

Healthcare services in Punjab’s Sangrur district have received a major upgrade with the inauguration of a modern hospital complex in Dhuri, reflecting the Punjab Government’s continued push to expand and improve public health infrastructure.

The newly developed facility, built at a cost of ₹21.65 crore, combines a 50-bed Sub-Divisional Hospital with a dedicated 30-bed Mother and Child Health unit. Together, the integrated complex is expected to serve residents of Dhuri and nearly 70 surrounding villages, significantly improving access to quality medical care in the region.

Spread across a large, well-equipped campus, the hospital offers a wide range of services, including outpatient and inpatient care, emergency treatment, diagnostic testing, and specialised consultations. With multiple operation theatres, modern laboratories, imaging facilities such as ultrasound and X-ray, and dedicated emergency services, the centre is designed to handle both routine and critical cases efficiently.

A major highlight of the project is its focus on maternal and child health. The dedicated block is equipped to provide comprehensive care for mothers and newborns, including both normal and surgical deliveries under expert supervision. Free treatment and diagnostic services for women and children are expected to ease financial burdens on families and encourage timely medical care.

The expansion marks a significant transformation of the existing facility, which began decades ago as a smaller hospital and has now evolved into a full-fledged healthcare hub with enhanced capacity and modern infrastructure. The upgraded setup is also expected to improve the handling of accident cases and serious medical emergencies in the area.

The development is part of a broader effort by the government led by Bhagwant Mann to strengthen public healthcare delivery across Punjab. In recent years, the state has increased the recruitment of doctors and specialists, expanded its network of health centres, and improved the availability of medicines and equipment in government institutions.

Financial protection for patients has also been a key focus, with health coverage schemes offering substantial assistance for treatment costs. These initiatives aim to ensure that access to healthcare is not limited by economic constraints.

Local residents and healthcare observers view the Dhuri hospital project as a crucial step towards bridging gaps in secondary-level medical services, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas. By bringing advanced facilities closer to communities, the initiative is expected to reduce dependence on distant urban hospitals and improve overall health outcomes in the region.
