Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday announced that the state government will provide free bus travel in Punjab Roadways buses for students appearing in the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled on June 21. The decision is aimed at ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent eligible candidates from reaching their examination centres.
According to the announcement, the facility will be available on June 20, 21 and 22 for all NEET-UG candidates travelling within the state. Students will be required to show their admit cards to avail the free travel service on Punjab Roadways buses.
Mann stated that many aspirants from economically weaker backgrounds appear for national level competitive examinations such as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate courses, and even basic travel expenses can become a burden for them.
He also referred to recent discussions involving Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal, who had interacted with NEET aspirants. Students had reportedly raised concerns regarding logistical and financial difficulties faced during examinations, prompting the government to consider supportive measures.
The NEET-UG examination was originally conducted on May 3, but was later cancelled following allegations of irregularities in the examination process. Authorities subsequently decided to conduct a re-examination to ensure fairness and transparency for all candidates. The Punjab government’s latest move is intended to facilitate smooth participation and reduce stress for students across the state during the examination period.
