Gurdaspur: In a significant security breakthrough, Punjab Police, working alongside the state’s Counter Intelligence unit, has solved the Gurdaspur grenade recovery case and taken three accused into custody.
The case dates back to April 27, when a hand grenade was discovered near Geeta Bhawan Road in Gurdaspur, triggering a high-level investigation and tightening of security across the district.
Police officials said the accused were identified through a detailed investigation involving technical surveillance, CCTV footage analysis and ground-level intelligence gathering.
During follow-up searches, investigators also recovered another hand grenade from the house of one of the arrested suspects, pointing to a larger planned operation.
Initial findings suggest the trio was allegedly acting under instructions from a foreign-based operative who had supplied them with two grenades.
Officials suspect the accused were part of a broader network attempting to create unrest in the region, though the exact objective behind the planned act is still being examined.
A formal case has been registered at City Police Station, Gurdaspur, under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
Investigating agencies are now focusing on uncovering the full chain of communication, including tracing overseas connections and identifying local associates who may have assisted the suspects.
Senior officers said the quick action by intelligence and district police teams helped neutralise a potential threat before it could escalate.
Punjab Police has reiterated its zero-tolerance approach towards activities aimed at disturbing peace and said all efforts are being made to dismantle the wider network linked to the case.
The investigation remains active, with more arrests and disclosures expected as authorities dig deeper into the conspiracy.
