Police officials said the recovery of high-grade firearms points towards a well-coordinated supply chain that may have links beyond Punjab.
Jalandhar: In a major operation against organised crime, the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate has dismantled an illegal arms network and arrested four accused allegedly linked to foreign-based handlers.
Police recovered eight sophisticated pistols during the operation, including one PX5 pistol, one Zigana pistol, three .30 bore pistols and three .32 bore pistols. Along with the weapons, 45 live cartridges were also seized from the possession of the accused.
According to preliminary findings, the arrested individuals were allegedly in contact with foreign-based operatives and were reportedly part of a wider criminal syndicate involved in illegal arms supply and organised crime activities.
Investigators also revealed that all four accused had been absconding in connection with two separate murder cases and had been evading arrest for a considerable period.
The arrests were made following sustained intelligence gathering and targeted action by the Commissionerate Police, which tracked the suspects and intercepted them before they could execute further criminal plans.
Police officials said the recovery of high-grade firearms points towards a well-coordinated supply chain that may have links beyond Punjab.
Authorities have launched an extensive probe to uncover the entire network, including identifying local facilitators, tracing financial transactions and establishing both forward and backward connections linked to the syndicate.
Senior officers stated that efforts are underway to determine whether the recovered weapons were intended for use in planned criminal acts or were part of a larger trafficking route.
Punjab Police reiterated its firm stand against organised crime and illegal arms smuggling, saying strict action will continue against anyone attempting to disrupt peace and public safety in the state.
The investigation is continuing, and officials indicated that more arrests could follow as fresh leads emerge from the interrogation of the accused.
