The altercation, partially captured on video, quickly drew attention as both sides exchanged heated words.
Political tempers ran high in Punjab’s Balachaur after a demonstration by Aam Aadmi Party supporters outside the local BJP office escalated into a tense face-off between party workers and senior leaders.
The protest was part of AAP’s statewide agitation against recent Enforcement Directorate action, but the situation in Nawanshahr district turned chaotic when an argument reportedly broke out between Banga MLA Dr. Sukhwinder Sukhi and BJP district president Rajwinder Lucky.
According to BJP leaders, Lucky was livestreaming the protest on social media when AAP workers allegedly attempted to snatch his mobile phone. The altercation, partially captured on video, quickly drew attention as both sides exchanged heated words.
Lucky alleged that the protesters had initially been welcomed at the office and offered water and refreshments. He claimed the atmosphere changed when some AAP workers allegedly picked up sound equipment from inside the premises, triggering objections from BJP members.
The BJP leader further accused the protesters of acting aggressively when he questioned their actions, alleging that threats were also issued during the confrontation.
The standoff continued for nearly ten minutes before police officers stepped in and separated the rival groups, preventing the situation from worsening.
After calm was restored, AAP workers raised slogans against the BJP and later dispersed from the spot.
The incident has sparked a political war of words, with BJP leaders accusing AAP of intimidation and misuse of political influence.
Senior BJP leaders have indicated they will formally approach district police authorities and seek legal action against those involved.
The clash comes amid growing tensions across Punjab as political parties continue trading accusations over the ED’s recent action involving AAP leaders and associated protests across the state.
