CBI special court sentences absconder Kashmir Singh to five years in 1991 custodial abduction case

Kashmir Singh, who was declared an absconder in the CBI case related to the alleged illegal abduction, unlawful detention, and torture of Baljit Singh, was finally arrested by the CBI in November 2025. During a separate trial against him, the court today sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment. 

The case pertains to the alleged abduction of Baljit Singh in 1991 and his disappearance while in police custody. Following an investigation, the CBI had registered a case against the police officials of that time.

The case was led on behalf of the CBI by prosecutor Lisa Grover. During the trial, Kashmir Singh had been declared an absconder, due to which his trial was separated from that of the other accused. The CBI's special court, on 29 March 2023, had convicted the then SHO Suba Singh, Dalbir Singh, and Rawel Singh, and sentenced them under various sections, including five years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 365 of the IPC. At that time, the court had ordered that the case against Kashmir Singh would be heard after his arrest or surrender.

In the separate proceedings that followed his arrest by the CBI in November 2025, the court has now also convicted Kashmir Singh and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment.
