Lok Sabha Introduces Three Bills on Women’s Reservation, Delimitation After 251–185 Division Vote
Three major Bills related to women’s reservation and administrative reforms were introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, where a recorded division of votes was held after Opposition members demanded a formal count instead of a voice vote.
The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Delimitation Bill, 2026, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 were taken up during a special parliamentary session. The division was ordered after the voice vote was challenged in the House.
A total of 251 Members of Parliament voted in favour of the motion, while 185 voted against it, out of 333 votes cast, with no abstentions recorded. Speaker Om Birla conducted the division following the demand for a recorded vote.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the Bills in the Lok Sabha during the ongoing session scheduled from April 16 to 18. The session is examining amendments related to women’s reservation under the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam framework.
Voting was carried out through the electronic system and vote slips, with members recording their positions under “Ayes,” “Noes,” and “Abstain.” All 333 members participated in the process.
The Bills will now proceed further in the legislative process for consideration and debate in Parliament.
