Protesters also shouted slogans alleging attempts to destabilise Punjab's elected government.
Sanjeev Arora Arrest News: Security was tightened in Bathinda on Sunday after political tempers flared outside the Bharatiya Janata Party office, where supporters of the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party gathered in large numbers following the Enforcement Directorate’s arrest of Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora.
The situation turned tense when activists from both parties arrived at nearly the same time and began raising slogans against each other, creating a charged atmosphere near the party office located close to Mittal Mall.
Police teams acted swiftly to prevent the confrontation from escalating. Officers formed protective lines between the rival groups and monitored the gathering closely to avoid any breach of law and order.
Senior police officials, including SP (City) Narinder Singh and DSPs Amritpal Singh Bhaati and Arun Mundan, personally supervised the arrangements and remained stationed at the site throughout the protest.
AAP leaders accused the BJP-led Centre of using federal agencies to target political opponents, claiming the action against Arora was politically motivated. Protesters also shouted slogans alleging attempts to destabilise Punjab’s elected government.
Among those leading the AAP demonstration were MLAs Jagroop Singh Gill, Balkar Sidhu, Jagsir Singh, and Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana, along with senior district leaders and former civic representatives.
Authorities maintained a strong security presence in the area even after the protests began dispersing, as officials remained cautious about possible unrest.
The demonstrations in Bathinda were part of coordinated protests organised by AAP across Punjab, where party workers assembled outside BJP offices to protest the ED’s move against the Cabinet minister.
