Delhi NCR Faces Severe Heatwave, IMD Warns of Scorching Days and Warm Nights
A severe heatwave has gripped parts of Delhi NCR, with temperatures rising sharply this week and conditions expected to intensify over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather office has issued a heatwave alert from April 21 to April 24, warning that temperatures could peak at around 43 degrees Celsius on April 22 and 23. The maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 41 degrees Celsius, significantly above normal levels for this time of year.
Unlike typical patterns, the IMD said the heat is likely to persist beyond daytime hours, with warm conditions extending into the evening, adding to discomfort for residents across the region.
A slight moderation is expected towards the end of the week, with maximum temperatures likely to dip marginally to around 41 degrees Celsius on April 25 and 26. However, minimum temperatures may rise to about 25 degrees, limiting any substantial relief.
Authorities and health experts have urged people to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours and maintain adequate hydration, as prolonged heatwave conditions increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.
