Pahalgam Attack Anniversary: Security forces across Jammu and Kashmir have intensified surveillance and preparedness measures as the region approaches the first anniversary of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives last year.

Authorities have ramped up protection at key religious sites and popular tourist destinations, aiming to ensure public safety and prevent any potential threats. The tragic incident on April 22, 2025, at Baisaran meadow had triggered widespread fear, leading to a sharp decline in tourism and the temporary closure of several tourist locations. In recent days, intelligence inputs suggesting possible militant movement near border districts such as Kathua and Samba have further heightened alert levels. Senior officials have conducted multiple review meetings to strengthen coordination among various security agencies and to finalize a robust security strategy.

Pilgrimage centres, including the revered Vaishno Devi shrine, are now under strict monitoring. Security personnel have increased patrolling in surrounding hilly areas, while additional checkpoints and surveillance systems have been put in place along key routes.

Officials in the Udhampur-Reasi range have reviewed arrangements along the pilgrimage track and nearby villages, ensuring that Village Defence Guards remain active and vigilant. Meanwhile, police teams in border areas have intensified checks and surveillance, particularly along infiltration-prone routes.

In Samba district, senior police officers have inspected border outposts and directed personnel to maintain a high state of readiness. Night patrols and surprise ambushes have also been introduced in sensitive zones to counter any possible infiltration attempts.

With tourist footfall gradually rising again in Pahalgam, authorities have introduced new safety mechanisms, including a QR code-based identification system for service providers such as pony operators, vendors, and local businesses. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and enable quick verification.

Senior police officials have emphasized the need for seamless coordination between agencies to maintain a secure environment for both residents and visitors. The stepped-up measures reflect a determined effort to prevent any repeat of last year’s tragedy and to restore confidence among tourists visiting the region.
