Heatwave Alert: IMD Warns of 5-Day Temperature Surge Across India
India Meteorological Department on Monday said heatwave conditions are likely to affect parts of northwest, central and eastern India over the next four to five days, with maximum temperatures expected to remain above normal across several regions.
The department said heatwave conditions are likely at different times between 20 and 25 April in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and parts of Gangetic West Bengal.
It added that warm and humid weather conditions are expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh and the Gujarat coast during the same period, increasing discomfort in coastal and southern regions.
According to the IMD, night temperatures are also expected to remain elevated between 20 and 22 April in parts of Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, limiting overnight relief from daytime heat.
The weather office said isolated rainfall and thunderstorms are likely over parts of central, southern and eastern India, with a possibility of hailstorms in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on Monday.
The IMD has advised that heatwave conditions are expected to vary across regions during the forecast period.
