Train hits pool car near Karna Subarna Station in Murshidabad, killing two schoolchildren; gatekeeper detained over alleged negligence

According to an Eastern Railway official, a train struck a pool car carrying three people on Friday morning in the Murshidabad area of West Bengal, killing two schoolchildren. He stated that the collision, which happened at a level-crossing gate close to the Karna Subarna Railway Station at around seven in the morning, injured three other people, including the driver of the pool car.
According to the Eastern Railway official, the level crossing gatekeeper was detained on suspicion of neglecting his duties.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that each deceased person's family will receive an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh. About 48 kilometers from Katwa, the local train struck the pool car that was transporting the students to school as it crossed the rail lines at the level crossing gate close to the Karna Subarna Station, he said. The injured were first transported to a nearby hospital before being treated at Bardhaman Medical College and Hospital.

The crew will look into why the level crossing gate was open as a train approached. It was reported that the level crossing gate was open at the time of the collision. The accident had an impact on train services in the Eastern Railway's Howrah division's Azimganj-Katwa section.
