During this intensive exercise, census workers recorded that over 2.3 crore individuals normally reside within the city.

The first phase of Delhi’s Census 2027 concluded on June 14, providing a crucial, though provisional, look at the capital's demographics. Officials emphasize that these figures, derived from the initial stage of the survey, are temporary and subject to verification before the final report is released next year.

During this intensive exercise, census workers recorded that over 2.3 crore individuals normally reside within the city. Breaking this down by location, the North-East district emerged as the most populous, recording 28,68,949 residents, followed by the South-West district with 25,00,195 people. The West and South-East districts reported 24,42,346 and 22,70,778 residents respectively.

Other key areas also showed significant density. The Eastern district logged 21,66,251 inhabitants, while the North-West and Outer North districts recorded 20,63,964 and 19,15,700 residents. Additionally, the Northern, Central North, and Central districts reported populations of 17,02,900, 11,31,599, and 9,60,798 respectively. Old Delhi registered 7,54,478 residents, while the South district counted 20,55,909. New Delhi district recorded the lowest count at 2,44,929.

This comprehensive data was gathered across 13 districts through 45,863 'House Listing Blocks' (HLB), with each block containing roughly 180 homes. The total operation successfully surveyed approximately 75,98,982 houses and 54,98,560 families. This rigorous methodology ensures that every housing unit is accounted for, creating a reliable foundation for future urban planning and resource distribution across the city.

Authorities have clarified that these preliminary findings offer only a snapshot of the current landscape. The definitive and official population statistics for the national capital will be unveiled following the completion of the second phase of the census, which is scheduled for February 2027.
