Mathura Boat Tragedy Death Toll Latest News Today: The death count in the Mathura boat accident has increased to 12 after rescue teams recovered another body from the Yamuna river on Sunday, officials said, as the search for missing persons continues.
Additional District Magistrate Amaresh Kumar confirmed that the latest recovery was made near Chamunda Ghat. The body has been sent to the mortuary, while authorities remain focused on locating others who are still unaccounted for.
A massive search operation is underway, with multiple agencies working in coordination. Eight teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and four from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed, along with local police and administrative staff, to comb the river and nearby areas.
The incident took place on April 10 when a boat carrying pilgrims capsized in the Yamuna, leading to a major loss of life. Since then, rescue teams have been working round the clock, facing challenges such as strong currents and limited underwater visibility.
Officials said that all available resources are being used to ensure the search is completed as soon as possible. The administration has also assured support to the victims’ families and is reviewing safety measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.
The incident has sparked concern over river transport safety, with calls for stricter enforcement of guidelines and better monitoring of boat operations.
