India Reports Stable LPG Supply as 51.5 Lakh Cylinders Delivered, Enforcement Tightened Nationwide
The government said domestic LPG supply remains stable across the country, with more than 51.5 lakh cylinders delivered in a single day, even as monitoring has been tightened to ensure uninterrupted availability and curb irregularities in the distribution system.
Demand trends and supply management efforts have moved in parallel, with around one lakh 5-kg Free Trade LPG cylinders sold in a day compared to a February average of about 77,000. Since March, more than 12 lakh such cylinders have reached students, migrant workers and vulnerable groups, reflecting targeted distribution alongside wider market stability.
Expansion of energy infrastructure is also progressing, combining both gas network growth and sectoral allocation changes. About 4.15 lakh new PNG connections have been gasified since March, alongside 4.55 lakh fresh registrations, while fertiliser plants have received a 5 per cent increase in natural gas allocation to improve operational supply levels.
Enforcement action has been intensified at the distribution level, with more than 3,400 raids conducted nationwide in a single day. Oil marketing companies imposed penalties on 214 LPG distributorships and suspended 55 after inspections linked to hoarding and black marketing practices.
In maritime and regional safety updates, the LPG vessel Jag Vikram has safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz carrying about 20,400 metric tonnes of fuel and is expected in Mumbai on April 15. Indian seafarers in the West Asia region remain safe, with no incidents reported involving Indian-flagged vessels in the past 24 hours, while passenger movement and diplomatic assistance for Indian nationals in the region continue through official channels.
