Over 57 Lakh Households Join Census 2027 Self Enumeration Drive
The first phase of Census 2027 has seen participation from more than 5.72 million households through the Self-Enumeration facility, according to the Registrar General of India.
The digital option, which allows households to submit census information online, is currently active in eleven states and Union Territories. These include Goa, Karnataka, Mizoram, Odisha, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, along with the NDMC area and Delhi Cantonment Board.
The first phase of the census began on April 1 and will remain open until April 15.
After the completion of this stage, field operations for House Listing and Housing Census are scheduled to begin on April 16 and continue until May 15. This phase will cover the listing of all buildings and structures, along with data on housing conditions, amenities and household assets.
The next major stage, Population Enumeration, is planned for February next year. It will involve the collection of individual-level demographic details such as age, gender, occupation, literacy and caste-related information.
The census is being conducted in multiple phases to ensure systematic and comprehensive coverage across the country. Officials said the Self-Enumeration initiative is aimed at increasing digital participation in the census process.
