The initiative is designed to bring multiple government health applications under one digital framework.
India has taken a significant step towards modernising its public healthcare system with the launch of a unified digital platform aimed at streamlining health programme operations across the country, according to the Health Ministry. Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda introduced the Swasth Bharat Portal during a national summit focused on innovation and inclusivity in healthcare.
The initiative is designed to bring multiple government health applications under one digital framework, addressing long-standing issues such as fragmented data systems and repetitive data entry. Built using an API-based structure, the platform enables integration across programmes, allowing information to flow more efficiently between systems.
Healthcare workers, including ASHAs, ANMs, community health officers and medical officers, are expected to benefit from simplified access through a single interface. This eliminates the need for multiple logins and reduces administrative workload. The platform also includes data visualisation features to support monitoring and decision-making at the local level.
Aligned with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, the system supports integration with digital health records through the Ayushman Bharat Health Account. It is also expected to connect with national registries of healthcare professionals and facilities, improving coordination across the sector.
Government estimates suggest the portal could reduce infrastructure burden by up to 30 percent and significantly cut duplication in data entry and resource use, enhancing efficiency and supporting data-driven healthcare governance nationwide.
