Glasgow: India enjoyed its most successful day of the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday, delivering an exceptional all-round performance that featured record-breaking success in boxing and podium finishes in athletics, judo and para sports. The impressive medal rush lifted the country to fourth place in the overall standings with 13 gold, 17 silver and eight bronze medals, taking its tally to 38.

Indian Boxers Deliver Historic Performance

The boxing contingent emerged as the biggest contributor to India's medal tally, winning seven gold medals—the country's finest-ever showing in the sport at the Commonwealth Games. The Indian team also finished with three silver medals, underlining its dominance inside the ring.

Among the women's champions were Jaismine Lamboria, Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas, Sakshi Chaudhary and Arundhati Choudhary, while Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain concluded her campaign with a silver medal.

In the men's events, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal claimed gold medals, whereas Jadumani Singh and Narender Berwal secured silver medals to round off a memorable boxing campaign.

Judo Continues Upward Journey

India's judokas added another chapter to their breakthrough campaign as Unnati Sharma captured bronze in the women's 63kg category after winning her medal contest with authority.

The result increased India's medal count in judo to four, making it the country's best-ever performance in the discipline at the Commonwealth Games. Earlier in the competition, Harsh Singh and Asmita Dey became India's first Commonwealth Games judo gold medallists, while Yamini Mourya claimed silver.

Gulveer Singh Achieves Rare Milestone

Distance runner Gulveer Singh continued his outstanding Games by securing bronze in the men's 5,000 metres. Having already won silver in the 10,000 metres earlier in the week, he became the first Indian athlete to win two track medals in a single Commonwealth Games edition.

India also celebrated a double podium finish in the men's triple jump, with Praveen Chithravel taking silver and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran earning bronze.

Para Athletes Continue Medal Surge

India's para athletes maintained their excellent form, with Soman Rana winning gold in the men's F57 shot put after producing a season-best throw. Fellow Indian Shubham Juyal finished second to complete a one-two finish for the country.

The para contingent ended its campaign with seven medals, including three gold, two silver and two bronze, making it India's most successful Commonwealth Games outing in para sports. The team also registered new Commonwealth Games and Asian records during the competition.

India Eyes Strong Finish

With one day of competition remaining, Indian athletes are still expected to compete in cycling and para cycling events. After a remarkable day across multiple disciplines, the contingent will now look to add more medals and conclude one of its most successful Commonwealth Games campaigns on a high note.
