Chandigarh, May 1, 2026: Census and House Listing Operations commenced today across 52,000 House Listing Blocks in Haryana. The exercise is being carried out by trained enumerators drawn from various government departments and private institutions. All enumerators and supervisors have undergone intensive training over the past month to ensure smooth, accurate, and effective conduct of the census.

This Census will be fully digital, with complete house listing and data collection done through a mobile application. Citizens who have already completed self-enumeration need only share their Self Enumeration ID with the enumerator.

As part of the operations launched today, enumerators are marking houses with serial numbers in each enumeration block. In sector-based residential areas, sector numbers and house numbers will be used for marking. Enumerators will also conduct a comprehensive survey of every street, locality, and settlement to prepare layout maps, ensuring no house or family is left out.

Dr. Lalit Jain, Director of Census Operations, Haryana, appealed to residents to extend full cooperation to enumerators and supervisors. He advised citizens to verify the identity card of visiting officials, which carries a scannable code, in case of any doubt. He urged the public to welcome census teams respectfully and provide correct and accurate information. He also requested Panchayat and Urban Local Body representatives to actively support the census teams, calling it a vital task of national interest.

“Enumerators and supervisors are the backbone of the Census Department, and the entire department stands firmly with them,” Dr. Jain said. He added that a toll-free helpline 1885 is operational from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for assistance to citizens, enumerators, and supervisors. Since this is the country’s first fully digital census, initial technical challenges are expected, and the department is working actively to resolve them.

Dr. Jain advised enumerators and supervisors to consider weather conditions while on field duty and to carry water and a cap. He also extended special thanks to Tehsildars, Secretaries, Executive Officers, and Zonal Taxation Officers serving as Charge Officers, for their active role in leading and ensuring the success of the census drive.
