Reacting to the order issued by the Administrative Officer, Chandigarh Housing Board, Tandon said that the decision has brought major relief to thousands of residents who had been living under constant fear and uncertainty due to demolition notices issued over changes and additional constructions in their dwelling units.

The order, dated 21.5.2026 and digitally signed by Deepak Kumar, Administrative Officer, Chandigarh Housing Board, reads: “Whereas numerous representations have been received from time to time regarding the regularization of changes made by allottees in the construction designs of their dwelling units including additional constructions carried out by them, a Committee under the Chairmanship of the Chief Executive Officer, Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB), was constituted.”

“Accordingly, all demolition actions based on notices already issued are hereby kept in abeyance until the recommendations of the Committee are finalized. This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority,” the order further reads. It is worth stating that the Committee was constituted with the approval of the UT Administrator and Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria Vide Order No. 57 dated 11.05.2026.

Tandon said that people of Chandigarh have repeatedly raised genuine concerns regarding regularization of structural modifications carried out over the years to meet the growing needs of their families. “The Administration’s decision reflects a humane and practical approach. Citizens should not be subjected to anxiety and hardship without giving due consideration to their circumstances and long-pending demands,” Tandon stated.

He further said that he had consistently stood with residents on this issue and had strongly advocated that the concerns of middle-class families, senior citizens and ordinary homeowners must be addressed sensitively. “This is a welcome step in the right direction. I sincerely thank the Chandigarh Administration for listening to the voice of the people and initiating a consultative process through the committee,” he added.

Reiterating his commitment towards the welfare of Chandigarh residents, Tandon said he would continue to raise public issues and work tirelessly to ensure better policies focused on citizens’ convenience, dignity and ease of living. “My commitment is to the people of Chandigarh. I will keep fighting for their rights, welfare and a more citizen-friendly system,” he asserted.
