IndiGo Appoints Willie Walsh as CEO After Pieter Elbers’ Exit
Walsh is currently serving as Director General of the International Air Transport Association, where his tenure is set to conclude on July 31.
The appointment comes weeks after the resignation of Pieter Elbers, who stepped down from the position earlier.
Walsh has previously held leadership roles in major global airlines. He served as Chief Executive Officer of British Airways and later led International Airlines Group, a holding company that operates multiple carriers including Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling.
Confirming the development, IndiGo stated that the leadership transition is part of its ongoing plans as the airline enters its next phase.
The company’s Managing Director Rahul Bhatia said that Walsh brings extensive experience in the aviation sector, along with global exposure and operational expertise.
Walsh is widely known in the aviation industry by the name ‘Willie’ and has held senior positions across international airline groups.
