Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Tuesday that the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is now operational in Greece. This rollout allows eligible customers to execute instant, secure, and seamless money transfers, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional, expensive payment methods.

During his diplomatic visit, Goyal engaged with Eurobank CEO Fokion Karavias to strengthen the India-Greece economic partnership. The discussions centered on fostering bilateral cooperation, with Goyal actively inviting Greek firms to invest in India’s manufacturing and infrastructure sectors. Goyal also underscored the transformative potential of the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement. He advocated for deeper collaboration, urging businesses to adopt a strategy of co-creating and co-manufacturing. Such synergy is expected to enhance trade ties and secure shared prosperity for both nations by opening new markets and streamlining investment channels.

The minister participated in the India-Greece Business Forum alongside Deputy Foreign Minister Harry Theoharis, where he connected with the Indian diaspora. By highlighting India's sustained economic momentum, he reinforced the message that the country offers unparalleled opportunities for investors, further cementing the diplomatic and economic rapport established between the two nations throughout his productive tour.

Finally, Goyal witnessed a live demonstration of the Eurobank-NIPL partnership at the bank's Athens headquarters. This milestone signifies the global expansion of India’s digital payments infrastructure, showcasing how innovative technology can bridge international financial ecosystems effectively.
