The Centre on Friday said investments under the production-linked incentive scheme for the food processing sector have crossed Rs 9,200 crore, signalling a steady push towards expanding domestic value addition.
Sharing details in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh noted that the scheme is also driving capacity creation, with nearly 35 lakh metric tonnes of additional processing and preservation capability being generated annually. Incentives worth Rs 2,714.79 crore have already been released.
Smaller enterprises form a key part of this expansion, with 69 micro, small and medium enterprises among the beneficiaries, indicating wider industry participation beyond large players.
The minister added that companies qualify for incentives only if the entire manufacturing cycle, including primary processing of food products, is undertaken within India.
A total of 168 applicants have been approved under the scheme till December 31, 2025, with cumulative investment reaching about Rs 9,207 crore.
In parallel, infrastructure development under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana continues to progress, with 41 mega food parks and 401 cold chain projects approved so far. Of these, 25 food parks and 302 cold chain units are operational, while others are at different stages of implementation.
