The Income Tax Department has officially launched the online filing and Excel utility facilities for Income Tax Return-2 (ITR-2) for the assessment year 2026-27. Taxpayers can now log directly into the official e-filing portal to submit their annual financial records for income earned during the financial year 2025-26.
This specific digital rollout comes exactly twelve days after the tax department activated similar direct-entry modules for alternative forms. On May 15, the authorities made the digital filing systems live for ITR-1 and ITR-4, which are the primary forms utilized by small and medium-scale taxpayers across the country.

Taxpayers must complete these digital submissions before fixed summer deadlines to prevent late fees. The final cutoff date for individual filers using the ITR-1 and ITR-2 forms is firmly set for July 31, 2026, whereas individuals filing non-audited business returns via ITR-4 templates have until August 31, 2026.
The administrative groundwork for this current filing season was laid down earlier this spring. The central government officially notified the updated return templates on March 30, and with the latest Excel sheets and online modules now fully functional, the e-filing platform is open for public tax accounting.
