Food Delivery Gets Costlier: Swiggy Hikes Fee to Rs 17.58, Zomato Close Behind
India’s leading food delivery platforms are once again raising costs for users, with Swiggy increasing its platform fee per order. The move reflects a broader trend in the sector, where companies are adjusting charges to manage rising operational expenses.
Customers placing orders on Swiggy will now pay a platform fee of Rs 17.58 per order, inclusive of GST. This fee is charged separately from delivery costs and restaurant bills, making it an additional fixed expense for users on every transaction.
The revision comes shortly after rival Zomato also raised its platform fee. Zomato recently increased its charge to Rs 14.90 per order, excluding GST. With taxes included, the effective fee paid by customers on both platforms now stands at nearly the same level.
Platform fees have become a key revenue stream for food delivery companies. These charges help cover expenses related to technology infrastructure, customer support services, and day-to-day operations, especially as competition in the sector remains intense.
Industry observers link the latest increase to external economic pressures. Rising crude oil prices, partly influenced by tensions in West Asia, have pushed up delivery and logistics costs. Companies appear to be passing a portion of this burden on to consumers.
Swiggy had last revised its platform fee in September 2025, indicating a gradual but consistent upward trend in user charges across the industry.
