This new route signifies the beginning of expanded global connectivity for the Navi Mumbai region.

Navi Mumbai International Airport has officially entered the global aviation arena with the successful launch of its inaugural international flight service. On Wednesday, an Air India Express aircraft departed from the newly operational airport, marking a significant milestone for India’s infrastructure development. The flight, carrying approximately one hundred passengers, took off at 2:55 AM Indian Standard Time and completed its journey to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates in about two and a half hours.

This new route signifies the beginning of expanded global connectivity for the Navi Mumbai region. Air India Express plans to operate three scheduled flights per week on this route, utilizing Boeing 737 Max-8 aircraft to facilitate travel. This expansion is expected to alleviate pressure on the existing Mumbai airport while providing residents with more convenient options for international departures.

Beyond passenger travel, the launch highlights the airport's strategic role in logistics. The inaugural flight transported the first international shipment of perishable goods, demonstrating the facility's readiness to support export-oriented trade. This capability is vital for local businesses seeking faster access to international markets for time-sensitive agricultural products.

The airport's development is managed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited, a specialized entity involving a strategic partnership between Adani Airport Holdings Limited and the City and Industrial Development Corporation. The project is being executed in multiple phases to reach its full projected capacity.

This successful launch follows the commencement of domestic services at the airport on December 25, 2025. As operations scale up, the facility is poised to become a critical hub for both passengers and cargo, significantly contributing to the economic growth of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and beyond.
