India Power Trading Hits Record 141 Billion Units on IEX in FY26; Renewable Volumes Up 5%
Electricity trading on the Indian Energy Exchange reached a record 141 billion units in the financial year 2025-26, registering a 17 per cent increase compared to the previous year, according to an official statement.
In March 2026, the exchange recorded its highest-ever monthly electricity volume at 13.90 billion units, reflecting a year-on-year rise of 23.5 per cent. During the same month, trading in renewable energy certificates rose sharply by 119.9 per cent to 2.894 million units.
For the January-March quarter of FY2025-26, electricity traded volumes stood at an all-time high of 39.4 billion units, marking a 24.3 per cent increase on an annual basis. Renewable energy certificate trading during the quarter also rose by 6.1 per cent year-on-year to 7.17 million units.
Overall, 18.72 million renewable energy certificates were traded during FY2025-26, representing a five per cent increase compared to the previous year.
In terms of pricing, the average price in the day-ahead market declined to Rs 3.86 per unit in FY2025-26, down 13.7 per cent year-on-year. The real-time market clearing price stood at Rs 3.59 per unit, which was 16 per cent lower than the previous financial year.
The growth in overall electricity trading during the year was supported by strong performance in the real-time market segment.
